So you have decided to start an Agile project. What now? How do you get started? How do I organize my team? How to I track my work? With this session I will give you the building blocks you need to set up an Agile project, manage the work throughout your project, coordinate with your clients, and provide some helpful tools you can inject in any project you encounter. I’ll be covering all the tools we use at Lexcom Systems Group as part of the Lexcom Development Methodology to help us deliver on our projects (including when to not run a project as an Agile project). If you don’t plan to start and manage your own Agile Projects, I will also be covering helpful tools to track your productivity, and improve your efficiency. The key to success in today’s IT industry is to use the right tools for the job. I hope to expand your toolbox and make you better equipped to handle the ever changing challenges we all face in our day to day jobs.

Speaker: Thomas Boxall
Thomas Boxall started his IT career with the Canadian Forces as a Signal Operator, where he was proud to serve a Tour of Duty in Afghanistan in 2004. In 2007, Thomas began working for ISM Canada, and IBM company. At ISM Canada, Thomas was first introduced to Agile, RUP, and TDD. Even with Waterfall based projects, Thomas was able to improve the reliability of his code by implementing Agile practices. In 214 Thomas moved to Lexcom System Group to pursue his goal of becoming an IT Architect. While at Lexcom, Thomas has become the manager of Application Development, and was instrumental at defining the Lexcom Development Methodology (a semi-dynamic mixture of Agile Project Management, and Lean Software Development) that is used on application development projects to date.

That thing you’ve put off until the last minute. No one wants to talk about it, but it’s there – the elephant in the room. The API is complete, and now someone has to make documentation for it. Join a developer turned Technical Writer to learn how API specification formats (Blueprint, Swagger and RAML) can be used to generate, automate and test your documentation.

Speaker: Melissa Kendall
For a Technical Writer, Melissa had an unconventional career path – a degree in Computer Science followed by two years of web development at iQmetrix. An opportunity to create developer-facing API documentation presented an irresistible opportunity to combine a passion for development with a love of writing and organization. A few months later, the iQmetrix Developer Portal was born, and the rest is history.

Companies everywhere are implementing DevOps into their development team. We're going to learn how we can leverage some of that DevOps mentality to make builds and deployments easier using TeamCity. In a half hour, we'll have automated builds, tests, and deployments set up for a simple console application.

Speaker: Barry Tran
After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan in Engineering Physics, Barry Tran decided he liked computers better. Currently working at iQmetrix on the DevOps team, when he isn't automating processes he probably plays too much video games and board games for his own good.
Whether it’s smart phones, smart watches or smart cars, people using technology more frequently all the time. Designing highly scalable services and applications is more important than ever before. You won't find a definitive StackOverflow answer to tell you how to choose hardware and write code that can handle loads of traffic, but in this session Tim will share some practical insight from helping GasBuddy handle it's exponential growth over the last few years. Tim will highlight how GasBuddy grew in scale and architecture while tackling some of the common misconceptions about what it takes to make high traffic work.
Web APIs have been taking the world by storm for the last decade and we have dozens of tools and frameworks to make API creation as easy as a drag & drop operation. While those tools give you the basics, they don't give you the advanced support that your clients need to make their calls faster, send only the data they want, and respond quickly. I'll highlight a few things that popular APIs are doing right, and some ways that you can apply them to your own calls to save bandwidth and hosting costs.

Speaker: Chad McCallum
Chad McCallum is a Saskatchewan computer geek and ASP.NET MVP with over a decade of .NET experience. After graduating from the Computer Systems Technology course at SIAST in Saskatoon he picked up contracting until he could pester iQmetrix to give him a job, where he's been for the last 9 years. He had a brief stint in Vancouver working on consumer interactive retail software, since then he's come back to Regina where he started HackREGINA, a hackathon organization aimed at strengthening the developer community while coding and drinking beer. His current focus is ecommerce websites using MVC5 and JavaScript. Between board games and beer, he tries to learn a new technology every week - you can see the results on www.rtigger.com

HTML5 has been around for awhile, but there hasn't been a whole lot of websites taking advantage of it. Let's take your average traditional website and HTML5ify it - we'll show how adding features like drag & drop, geolocation, cache, workers, and more can help improve the performance and usability of your existing site.

Speaker: Chad McCallum
Chad McCallum is a Saskatchewan computer geek and ASP.NET MVP with over 8 years of .NET experience. After graduating from the Computer Systems Technology course at SIAST in Saskatoon he picked up contracting until he could pester iQmetrix to give him a job, where he's been for the last 8 years. He had a brief stint in Vancouver working on interactive retail software. Since then he's come back to Regina, SK where he started HackREGINA, a hackathon organization aimed at strengthening the developer community while coding and drinking beer. His current focus is ecommerce websites using MVC5 and JavaScript. Between board games and beer, he tries to learn a new technology every week - you can see the results on www.rtigger.com

Topic: How to Bake Your SharePoint environment Without Getting GUI
As veteran SharePoint users will know and those new to SharePoint will soon learn, the installation and configuration of a SharePoint environment can be a “click and wait” heavy process. The configuration process is very user intensive and time consuming, sometimes resulting in misconfigurations that require more work to change than the initial setup in order to get things right. So what if we could do the entire setup including configuration of the farm and deployment of site collections, sub sites, pages, lists and libraries as well as implementation of custom solutions and placement of web parts on a page all with one double click?

This session will be a deep dive in to Microsoft’s PowerShell scripting and how it can be used to build an entire SharePoint environment in minutes. I will discuss PowerShell itself, xml configuration options, configuring your SharePoint farm with scripting and implementing a SharePoint environment through PowerShell scripting. While this session is geared more towards the ITPro side of SharePoint, developers and power users will also benefit from the information in this session.
