With SharePoint 2013, we saw the introduction of a new way to build SharePoint applications that brings SharePoint development more in line with mainstream web development. We'll be taking a brief look at the history of SharePoint development and we'll be focusing on what the new app model brings (benefits and drawbacks). We'll finish with resources to get you started on your journey to build SharePoint apps, using the new app model and moving away from deploying server-side code on the SharePoint servers.

Vili Bogdan is a SharePoint consultant with DevFacto Technologies Inc. and is based in Regina, Saskatchewan. He has been working with SharePoint since 2007 and holds the MCSE: SharePoint and MCSD: SharePoint Applications certifications, as well as the SharePoint 2010 certifications. He has been working with multiple clients to stand up SharePoint environments, guiding clients in how to solve business problems using out of the box functionality and building customizations when needed
